Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha has made a strong statement ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, confirming that the current squad will remain intact. He said no major alterations are expected before the mega event.
The move signals confidence in a combination that has gradually taken shape since Pakistan’s struggles at the Asia Cup 2026. Following that setback, Pakistan restructured their T20 setup and made several decisive changes.

🔥 Pakistan settles on a winning formula
The national side brought in Abdul Samad, Babar Azam, Usman Khan, and Naseem Shah, which provided balance and clarity in the shorter format. That approach paid off with a T20I series win against South Africa, followed by a Tri-series triumph over Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.
Salman explained on a PCB podcast that every player has been assigned a specific role, and that stability has helped Pakistan progress.
“I don’t see any major changes in the national T20 squad before the World Cup,” Salman said. “We have six matches left, and this is the combination we want to continue with.”
🩺 Shadab Khan injury update
One of the biggest talking points surrounds Shadab Khan, who has been out since May due to shoulder surgery in London. He is expected to make his on-field return in the BBL 2026–26 in Australia.
Salman stressed that Shadab’s experience remains vital and added that the “door is open” for his comeback before the World Cup.
🌴 Sri Lanka tour seen as crucial prep
Pakistan will travel to Sri Lanka next month for a three-match T20 series, and Salman believes those games could be decisive. All of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup fixtures will be played in Sri Lanka, giving the squad valuable exposure to local pitches and weather.
The captain is already looking ahead, with an ambitious goal of competing for both the T20 World Cup 2026 and the ICC World Cup 2027.
